ATI ROSANNE ROMEU

Observe, collect, note, move, act, manipulate, tense, release, observe. While experiencing the
body, shaping clay, wrapping textile, connecting loops or reproducing images, a process-based
research allows me to approach complex dynamics that have an impact on social behavior. The
studio becomes a place to rearrange hierarchical patterns and build alternative structures.
Paintings, photography, wearables, clay objects, sound, wood, chains and text come
together in the form of installations. My work points out tensions or implemented attitudes that
are carried by the body. I aim to deconstruct notions like femininity and capitalized value.
Fragmentation and repetition of imagery, as well as the materialization of thoughts become tools
to erase pressure, renegotiate strain and acknowledge or reframe boundaries that I encounter
throughout my research. I introduce metaphors, role play and symbolism that allow me to work
with different layers of information by weaving together the connotations of the elements and
storylines I'm appropriating. Sexuality, play and miscommunication are some of the recurring
elements in the work. The body plays the role of a potential passage between the private and the
public, or a support where traces and marks of a social context or history are to be found.
